[Bugfix] Confirm model deletes with a live read - #1209

Conversation
The model agent acted on every informer Deleted event for a BaseModel or ClusterBaseModel. During a server-side apply of the CRD, an agent received a Deleted event for a ClusterBaseModel that still existed. It removed the model's node labels across the fleet, and for an agent-owned model the same path can delete the weights on disk. Before cleaning up on a Deleted event, read the object from the API server. Ignore the event when the same object (same UID) still exists without a deletion timestamp, or when the read keeps failing. Real deletions are unaffected: they reach the agent first as an update that sets the deletion timestamp, and the live read then returns NotFound, a new UID, or a deleting object. to queued confirmation work so a slow read cannot block handling later
notifications. Bound each read with a context deadline while preserving the
existing not-found retry behavior; locate the callback through its
`retry.OnError` block.
- Around line 547-549: Update the Deleted-event confirmation handler so API read
failures requeue the deletion confirmation instead of returning as though the
event is finished; preserve kind and key for the retry so cleanup can proceed
once deletion is confirmed.

Move the live read that confirms an informer Deleted event out of the informer callback. The callback now only adds the event to a rate-limited workqueue. A worker, started and stopped with the scout, reads the object from the API server with a 10s deadline per read and then: - hands the delete to the gopher when the object is gone, has a new UID, or is being deleted; - drops the event when the same object still exists; - requeues the event with per-item exponential backoff (1s up to 5m) when the read fails, instead of giving up on it. Thanks for the review. I moved the live read out of the informer callback: the delete handler now only puts the event on a rate-limited workqueue, and a worker started and stopped with the scout does the read. Each read has a 10s deadline. NotFound, a new UID, or a deletion timestamp still go ahead with the cleanup, and a live object with the same UID still drops the event. A failed or timed-out read is now requeued with per-item exponential backoff (1s up to 5m) instead of being dropped. The tests cover each case, including a retry that later succeeds and the read deadline. |

Stop and join the confirmation worker before closing the gopher channel. Cancel an in-flight handoff when the scout shuts down, so a stopped gopher cannot leave the worker blocked. Cover the stopped-gopher case. Signed-off-by: Tianlang (Jackie) Chen <305351710+jackiectl2@users.noreply.github.com>

I addressed the shutdown handoff concern. Scout now stops and joins the delete-confirmation worker before closing the gopher task channel, and an in-flight confirmation can abandon its send when shutdown starts. The new regression test covers a stopped gopher with an unbuffered task channel. |
What this PR does
Confirms informer
Deletedevents for BaseModel and ClusterBaseModel with a live read from the API server before the model agent cleans up node state. The informer callback only queues the event; a worker started and stopped with the scout does the read, with a 10s deadline per read. The agent ignores the event when the same object (same UID) still exists without a deletion timestamp. If the object is gone (NotFound), was recreated with a new UID, or is being deleted, cleanup proceeds as before. A failed or timed-out read is requeued with per-item exponential backoff (1s up to 5m) instead of being dropped.Real deletions are not affected: the controller's finalizer means the agent first sees an update that sets the deletion timestamp, and that path is unchanged.
Why we need it
During a server-side apply of the
clusterbasemodels.ome.ioCRD, a model agent acted on aDeletedevent for a ClusterBaseModel that still existed. It removedmodels.ome.io/clusterbasemodel.<name>node labels across the fleet, and for an agent-owned model the same path can delete the weights on disk. This implements the first hardening item from the issue (get-before-destroy). Periodic reconciliation of labels and the ConfigMap against disk is left for a follow-up.

How to test
The new table test uses the fake OME clientset. It covers an object that still exists, one that is gone, one recreated with a new UID, one being deleted, a failing read and a timed-out read (both requeued), for both BaseModel and ClusterBaseModel, plus a retry that later succeeds, queue shutdown, and the read deadline.
